My Flawless Skin Routine

I often receive compliments on how great my skin looks and how I get it to look so fresh and flawless. With a lot of hard work, dedication and experimentation I think I finally found a routine that works for me and so many of my friends that I have recommended these products to. I am so excited to share my skin secrets with all of my loyal blog followers.

The first step to flawless skin is getting to know what type of skin you have, some have dry skin, oily skin or if your are like me combination skin. This routine is perfect for girls with an oily/dry skin type and for those who are prone to break outs.

Day Time Routine!

Herbalism

First thing in the morning I use my Herbalism cleanser, it is a godsend! I recommend this cleanser to everyone and all my friends agree that this cleanser is the best thing to ever happen to their skin. Its perfect for combo skin because it exfoliates your dry spots with ground almonds and soaks up the oil from your greasy spots with rice wine vinegar. These cleanser rolls are a little different then your average, to use scoop out a pea sized to dime sized piece of cleanser and add a bit of water to make into a paste and rub all over the face and rinse! I’m not going to lie to you, this stuff smells a tad bit pungent but so worth it.

Lush Describes it as :Gently exfoliating, deep-cleansing base of kaolin clay and rice bran mops up excess oils, and a toning blend of rosemary, nettle and chamomile leaves skin feeling fresh, clean and calm. This gentle green giant contains chlorophyllin, which is extracted from alfalfa plants: it’s rich in nourishing vitamins and minerals, and helps to balance out your skin’s oil production.

Tea Tree Water

Next I follow with 2-3 sprays of the tea tree toner water to tone and brighten my skin. This stuff is fantastic because it is alcohol free so it is not drying at all. The tea tree element is really good for those who are acne prone/combo skin.

Lush Describes it as: Cleansing tea tree, juniper berry and grapefruit waters keep skin looking fresh and balance skin tone. Light and refreshing Tea Tree Water reduces redness and clears excess oil without drying so you can put your best face forward.

Imperialis

Finally I follow with Imperialis moisturizer. Imperialis is a super soothing and brightening moisturizer. It is not super heavy, it just soaks right into the skin leaving you moisturized but not one bit oily. I love how fresh my skin looks after applying it and it smells sooo good.

Lush Describes it as: Imperialis is a finely crafted moisturizer that works with most skin types to ease and soothe irritations. Made with lavender infusion to balance the skin’s sebum production, the lavender encourages dry skin to produce more natural oils and discourages oily skin from overdoing it. Orange blossom water brightens up dull looking areas and leaves you smelling gorgeous all day long.

Evening Routine!

My evening Routine is almost identical to my daytime routine with the exception of three products.

9 to 5

The first thing I do before going to bed is take my make up off. I do tend to wear a decent amount of face make up and eye make up. Falling asleep in your make up is a HUGE no-no, it can clog your pores and lead to acne, millia and other skin issues. I love the 9 to 5 make up removing lotion because it is less drying then my tried and true Equate Make Up Wipes but it still gets the job done. I just pour a generous on my hands and rub on my face and eyes to help it break down my make up, let it sit on the skin for about 1 minute to break down the residual make up and then wipe it all off with a cotton round or tissue. This stuff is great for taking off liquid eyeliner and mascara and not to mention it smells like a dream!

Lush Describes it as: This gentle cleanser is made with almond oil, dove orchids and everlasting flower absolute to remove your leftover make up, dirt and grime at the end of a long work day.

Dark Angels

To cleanse my skin in the evening I use dark angels. It is a black charcoal and black sugar cleanser that is VERY exfoliating and brightening. It leaves your skin super soft, clean, bright and oil free after a day of heavy make up use. Although many who have review this product say that it “leaves a black film” on your face I have found if you tweak the temperature of your water to as hot as you can stand it, you should have no problems at all. This product does not smell as odd as herbalism but does have a faint black licorice scent.

Lush Describes it as: Black sugar and charcoal gently exfoliate and absorb excess oils to leave dull, oily or acne-prone skin feeling fresh and matte. Even oily skin can be sensitive, so we’ve made this one soft and soothing to calm redness and irritation, too. Its rhassoul mud base deep-cleanses to help prevent breakouts while vitamin rich cold-pressed organic avocado oil nourishes skin to leave it soft and lightly hydrated. Use all over for perfectly smooth, bright skin.

Tone and moisturize as usual

One last added step I do every evening is dab the smallest amount of coconut oil under my eyes as a natural eye cream. Be sure the oil you choose is both 100% Organic, extra virgin and cold pressed!

3 Times a Week Treats!

I like to use a mask 3 times a week or more depending on how bad my skin is acting up. The products are subject to change because my skin tends to do wacky things sometimes  but they are all Lush Fresh Face Masks. These masks are made from fresh ingredients like all lush products but these masks are a little more unique in the sense that you need to refrigerate these masks. Like all lush products they expire but Fresh Face Masks have a shelf life limited to about 3 weeks.

Whenever using a mask it works best when you steam your pores open. I do this by microwaving a bowl of water for about 2-3 minutes and placing my face over the bowl for about 1 minute to steam those pesky pores open for a deeper and more effective clean.

Cupcake

Cupcake is a fantastic mask for when your skin is misbehaving! I use this mask specifically on my T-zone only where I’m prone to break outs. It smells like an amazing mint chocolate treat. Its fabulous for my T-zone but I’m hesitant to put it on my entire face because I fear that it may be too drying due to its oil soaking properties.

Lush describes it as: If you suffer from oily or spotty skin, slather it in this cocoa concoction. With spearmint oil to cool, vanilla absolute to calm redness and Rhassoul mud to deeply cleanse-

BB Seaweed

BB seaweed is my life! It’s is super soothing, brightening and moisturizing, perfect for cold winter days. The texture is different then cupcake its more of a whipped texture. I use this mask on the rest of my face where the cupcake was not applied.

Lush describes it as : Created especially to care for sensitive skin, BB Seaweed is a best-seller for its soothing, smoothing effects. No surprises here, it’s packed with none other than the ocean greenery itself! Seven pounds of it in each batch, in fact. This locally-harvested, nutrient-rich seaweed nourishes the skin, while finely ground almonds ever-so-gently exfoliate leaving skin perfectly smooth. We use a generous helpings of aloe vera gel and rose absolute to calm and soothe sensitive spots, and a gorgeous combination of honey and olive oil to moisturize

Fairway Fashion

Finding clothes that are both fashionable and functional as a female golfer can be a challenge, that was until recently. I came across the skirt section at Lululemon this past summer, they were designed for tennis and running but are the cutest and comfiest skorts for golf. This discovery sparked a mission to find fashionable fairway ensembles. Also so many new companies are popping up catering to the fashionable female golfer and I have never been more excited.

Here are some of my on the course and off the course favorites.

My Guide To Starbucks

Although here in New England, Dunkin’ reigns supreme I will always be a Starbucks girl. Since the cold weather is finally here in Rhode Island and mid-terms will be here in the blink of an eye. I thought I would share with you a break down on my favorite hot drinks from my favorite place to keep you warm and energized.

  image

  1. Skinny Cinnamon Dulce Latte – I am obsessed with anything cinnamon flavored. This latte tastes like cinnamon and brown sugar, its pretty much cozy sweater weather n a cup.
  2. Skinny Vanilla Latte- The perfect latte when you just want a little sweetness.
  3. Oprah Cinnamon Chai Latte- Sweet, spicy and fabulous. I prefer this chai over their normal chai because there is a little more spice to it and for every latte sold a portion of the proceeds go to The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Foundation so it makes it a little more special.
  4. Blonde roast- Light bodied, yummy coffee. Nuff said.
  5.  Caramel Macchiato- Strong, delicious and one of my favorites, the only reason why I have it last on my list is because it’s a tad too sweet to order all the time.

Whats your favorite starbucks drink? Comment below.

You Can Pay For School But You Can’t Buy Class

image

Fall means one thing, the start of a new school year. It’s a time for learning, growing, reaching your goals and reuniting with good friends. The beginning of the school year can be stressful and as you realize you are quickly reaching your goal of graduation it can sometimes be hectic and overwhelming. After a crazy first week my fellow classmate and blogger bestie New England Belle invited me to be a part of her back to school photoshoot. It was the perfect way to de-stress and catch up. We gathered up our friends, packed up our backpacks and headed downtown to the third oldest college in New England, Brown University. The university was founded in 1764 and is full of rich history and beautiful architecture which made for the perfect backdrop for our vintage Ivy styles. Here are just a few of my favorites from our shoot, to see more head on over to http://www.newenglandbelle.com

My Favorite Back to School Bags!

BlogBTSWith school quickly approaching I have been browsing new options for bags. Last year I purchased a classic tote from Vineyard Vines and in a short span of time I destroyed the bag. The bag its self is durable and held up to daily wear and tear but the silk patterned trim is completely torn. I read the reviews of the bag online to see if it was a defect in the bag but many others have also experienced this. In my opinion the bag is perfect as a purse or for occasional use but if you are looking for a durable tote for school you may want to look elsewhere. After toting around my torn up bag for a year I wanted to look into purchasing something both fashionable and durable. I came across these 5 adorable bags that will last. Now  the hardest decision is picking out one to purchase!

RS Numbered Tote / Re-Sail       Beach Tote in Pack Your Trunk /  Lilly Pulitzer

North Ridge Backpack in True Teal / L.L. Bean     Scout Backpack in Charcoal / Benrus

Bulldog Backpack in Navy Stripe / Benrus

I really have my heart set on the Scout Backpack from Benrus it’s so classic and will go with anything!

Sorority Recruitment Guide : The Basics

This post is an oldie but goodie re-post from my very first blog nauti-newenglander! I will be making weekly recruitment guide posts and this is the first of the series. I hope you enjoy these guides and that they are helpful to you on your journey.

The Basics

So you finally made the decision that you want to join a sorority this year? You may feel a little scared or anxious about the unknown world of sorority recruitment week and sorority life in general but don’t worry, you made an amazing decision that will impact your whole life. Joining a sorority was the best decision of my life. I would not trade people I have met, the confidence I have gained and the leader I have become for anything. Recruitment week is a lot to take in but hopefully this post will make things a little easier.Theta Phi Alpha Delta Epsilon

Terminology:
From the moment you express interest in an organization you are considered a PNM which stands for Potential New Member.

The women who are currently in the sorority are called Collegian . An Collegian is a sorority woman who has been initiated and actively participates in sorority events.

You also may come across some girls who say they are on E-Board AKA Executive Board. These ladies are in-charge of making sure the sorority runs smoothly.

Some chapters may even have Alumna present during recruitment. These ladies have graduated from college and still play an important role in sorority life, after all being in a sorority isn’t just four years but for life!

You also will defiantly hear the word philanthropy used during recruitment week. A philanthropy is an organization or cause that the women help by donating time and money to.

Chi Phi’s,Rho Chi’s, Rho Gamma’s,Gamma Chi’s:
All school’s have different names for their recruitment councilors. These ladies disassociate from their organizations to guide you through the formal recruitment process and help you find your home. If you ever have a question about anything during recruitment she will be your lifeline.

Events/Parties:
Depending on your school the weeks festivities maybe called either events or parties. These are not the events or parties that you are used to. These events/parties will help you get to know more about the organization, and the sisters. It will also give the sisters a chance to get to know you and see if you will be a good fit for their chapter.

My Tips for Events/Parties:

1. Keep an open mind, give all the organizations a chance. Recruitment is all about finding your perfect fit.

2. Be yourself, let your amazing personality shine through.

3. Talk to everyone, you never know who you could make a connection with.

4. Smile, they are contagious and they show that you are excited and happy to be there

The Waiting Game:
Waiting to find out if you received a preference night invite or a bid can feel like forever, keep calm and keep yourself occupied. If you do not get an invite back to the sorority you had your heart set on do not get discouraged, it might have not been the right semester or the right fit.

My advice if you did not receive a bid from the sorority you had your heart set on is :

1. Do not rule out the other sorority’s on campus that did invite you back, they saw something special in you and think you will be a perfect fit.

2. Try again next semester, it might have not been the right time.

Always remember this, not receiving a bid does not reflect your worth. You are special in your own way and you have amazing qualities that those women may have overlooked.

Banana Nut Waffles

imageThis past weekend I wanted to surprise my mother with a delicious brunch. She is the self proclaimed queen of banana nut bread, ask any of her co-workers or my past roommates she makes the best. To pay homage to her delicious banana nut bread I came across a banana nut pancake recipe but thought to myself this would make awesome waffles. They came out fluffy and perfect with the perfect amount of banana with a hint to cinnamon spice just like my mothers bread recipe. These easy homemade waffles make for the perfect brunch and now for the best part! SOS Someone Save My Hair!

Hard water can ruin your hair, I know from experience. Living in an area with hard water or well water can severally dry out your locks and even leave them discolored especially if you have light, color treated hair. After growing tired of breaking multiple brushes trying to brush my dried up and brassy blonde hair I knew I had to do something. After some research I came across Ion Hard Water Shampoo from Sally’s Beauty Supply. It works so good, its vegan, it takes the brassiness out of my blonde hair and I’m actually able to comb my hair immediately after showering which I was never able to do before. This stuff is literally a miracle in a bottle but in my experience it should be used every other day because it removes the hard water minerals from your hair, I noticed with everyday use as recommended on the bottle it is a little drying. blog2Do you have hard water and have any tips to keep your hair manageable?
