I often receive compliments on how great my skin looks and how I get it to look so fresh and flawless. With a lot of hard work, dedication and experimentation I think I finally found a routine that works for me and so many of my friends that I have recommended these products to. I am so excited to share my skin secrets with all of my loyal blog followers.
The first step to flawless skin is getting to know what type of skin you have, some have dry skin, oily skin or if your are like me combination skin. This routine is perfect for girls with an oily/dry skin type and for those who are prone to break outs.
Day Time Routine!
First thing in the morning I use my Herbalism cleanser, it is a godsend! I recommend this cleanser to everyone and all my friends agree that this cleanser is the best thing to ever happen to their skin. Its perfect for combo skin because it exfoliates your dry spots with ground almonds and soaks up the oil from your greasy spots with rice wine vinegar. These cleanser rolls are a little different then your average, to use scoop out a pea sized to dime sized piece of cleanser and add a bit of water to make into a paste and rub all over the face and rinse! I’m not going to lie to you, this stuff smells a tad bit pungent but so worth it.
Lush Describes it as :Gently exfoliating, deep-cleansing base of kaolin clay and rice bran mops up excess oils, and a toning blend of rosemary, nettle and chamomile leaves skin feeling fresh, clean and calm. This gentle green giant contains chlorophyllin, which is extracted from alfalfa plants: it’s rich in nourishing vitamins and minerals, and helps to balance out your skin’s oil production.
Next I follow with 2-3 sprays of the tea tree toner water to tone and brighten my skin. This stuff is fantastic because it is alcohol free so it is not drying at all. The tea tree element is really good for those who are acne prone/combo skin.
Lush Describes it as: Cleansing tea tree, juniper berry and grapefruit waters keep skin looking fresh and balance skin tone. Light and refreshing Tea Tree Water reduces redness and clears excess oil without drying so you can put your best face forward.
Finally I follow with Imperialis moisturizer. Imperialis is a super soothing and brightening moisturizer. It is not super heavy, it just soaks right into the skin leaving you moisturized but not one bit oily. I love how fresh my skin looks after applying it and it smells sooo good.
Lush Describes it as: Imperialis is a finely crafted moisturizer that works with most skin types to ease and soothe irritations. Made with lavender infusion to balance the skin’s sebum production, the lavender encourages dry skin to produce more natural oils and discourages oily skin from overdoing it. Orange blossom water brightens up dull looking areas and leaves you smelling gorgeous all day long.
My evening Routine is almost identical to my daytime routine with the exception of three products.
The first thing I do before going to bed is take my make up off. I do tend to wear a decent amount of face make up and eye make up. Falling asleep in your make up is a HUGE no-no, it can clog your pores and lead to acne, millia and other skin issues. I love the 9 to 5 make up removing lotion because it is less drying then my tried and true Equate Make Up Wipes but it still gets the job done. I just pour a generous on my hands and rub on my face and eyes to help it break down my make up, let it sit on the skin for about 1 minute to break down the residual make up and then wipe it all off with a cotton round or tissue. This stuff is great for taking off liquid eyeliner and mascara and not to mention it smells like a dream!
Lush Describes it as: This gentle cleanser is made with almond oil, dove orchids and everlasting flower absolute to remove your leftover make up, dirt and grime at the end of a long work day.
To cleanse my skin in the evening I use dark angels. It is a black charcoal and black sugar cleanser that is VERY exfoliating and brightening. It leaves your skin super soft, clean, bright and oil free after a day of heavy make up use. Although many who have review this product say that it “leaves a black film” on your face I have found if you tweak the temperature of your water to as hot as you can stand it, you should have no problems at all. This product does not smell as odd as herbalism but does have a faint black licorice scent.
Lush Describes it as: Black sugar and charcoal gently exfoliate and absorb excess oils to leave dull, oily or acne-prone skin feeling fresh and matte. Even oily skin can be sensitive, so we’ve made this one soft and soothing to calm redness and irritation, too. Its rhassoul mud base deep-cleanses to help prevent breakouts while vitamin rich cold-pressed organic avocado oil nourishes skin to leave it soft and lightly hydrated. Use all over for perfectly smooth, bright skin.
Tone and moisturize as usual
One last added step I do every evening is dab the smallest amount of coconut oil under my eyes as a natural eye cream. Be sure the oil you choose is both 100% Organic, extra virgin and cold pressed!
3 Times a Week Treats!
I like to use a mask 3 times a week or more depending on how bad my skin is acting up. The products are subject to change because my skin tends to do wacky things sometimes but they are all Lush Fresh Face Masks. These masks are made from fresh ingredients like all lush products but these masks are a little more unique in the sense that you need to refrigerate these masks. Like all lush products they expire but Fresh Face Masks have a shelf life limited to about 3 weeks.
Whenever using a mask it works best when you steam your pores open. I do this by microwaving a bowl of water for about 2-3 minutes and placing my face over the bowl for about 1 minute to steam those pesky pores open for a deeper and more effective clean.
Cupcake is a fantastic mask for when your skin is misbehaving! I use this mask specifically on my T-zone only where I’m prone to break outs. It smells like an amazing mint chocolate treat. Its fabulous for my T-zone but I’m hesitant to put it on my entire face because I fear that it may be too drying due to its oil soaking properties.
Lush describes it as: If you suffer from oily or spotty skin, slather it in this cocoa concoction. With spearmint oil to cool, vanilla absolute to calm redness and Rhassoul mud to deeply cleanse-
BB seaweed is my life! It’s is super soothing, brightening and moisturizing, perfect for cold winter days. The texture is different then cupcake its more of a whipped texture. I use this mask on the rest of my face where the cupcake was not applied.
Lush describes it as : Created especially to care for sensitive skin, BB Seaweed is a best-seller for its soothing, smoothing effects. No surprises here, it’s packed with none other than the ocean greenery itself! Seven pounds of it in each batch, in fact. This locally-harvested, nutrient-rich seaweed nourishes the skin, while finely ground almonds ever-so-gently exfoliate leaving skin perfectly smooth. We use a generous helpings of aloe vera gel and rose absolute to calm and soothe sensitive spots, and a gorgeous combination of honey and olive oil to moisturize
